Racing

Rules

  1. The race will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing
  2. Eligibility and Entry
    1. The regatta is open to wind-surfers and any one-design day-sailer.
    2. eligible boats may enter by completing the attached form and submitting it, with fee to the registrar the dayof the regatta
    3. Each sailor must complete and sign a seporate registration form. Minors must have parent's signature
    4. Fees
      1. Compete in your own boat $10
      2. compete in a Sailing Center JY15 or JY14 $40 (skipper & crew)
      3. Enjoy an afternoon of sailing in Hawk Cove in a sailing Center Xcite, a one-person boat $20
  3. Schedule
    1. Registration is from 9:30am till 11:45am on the day of the race. Sailing instructions available at registration table
    2. Skippers meeting at 11:00am
    3. One race is scheduled with teh first warning at noon
    4. Separate starts will be provided for windsurfers and catamarans if at least three competitors are entered in these categories. Anoter start will be held for all other classes.
    5. The order will be announced at the skipper's meeting
  4. Course
    1. the race will begin just off shore of the Sailing Center and proceed around Hart-Miller Island as described in the instructions
  5. Scoring
    1. the Low Point Scoring System, Appendix A4 of the racing rules, will apply
    2. The following Classes in which at least three boats race will be scored seperately
      1. Laser, Thistles, JY15, Windsurfer
    3. All classes, not included above in which at least 6 boats are entered, will be scorded seperately
    4. Boats not in categories listed above will be in the Portsmouth class and be scored as such.
    5. The US Sailing Portsmouth Yardstick with Wind Velocity Handicaps will be the handicapping system used for yachts compeatin int the Portsmouth class.
  6. Launch Haul-out & Parking
    1. Parking is available across the street (no fee)
    2. No motor vehicles are allowed on the Sailing Center site. Boats can be launched from a ramp across the street (no fee), or they can be carried or moved by dolly from the parking lot of the Saling Center beach. Vehicles may not be parked in the street for this operation.
  7. Prizes
    1. JY15, Portsmouth, and any one-design dignhy class of 6 or more boats: first place trophy, first plaec award of a Sailing Center T-shirt or hat.
    2. First place perpetual trophies will be awarded to JY15, having the shortest finish time when scored using the Portsmouth Yardstick (Reverse Cup).

JY15's are double handed boats, typically sailed by in teams of two. In the even that we get extremely light wind conditions or low enrollment, we may sail these boats single handed, with just the mainsail.

Fees Per Sailor

  • $15 per night
  • $50 per series
  • $150 for the entire year (best value)
